Holy Crap!!! For the first time in my life, I won medal for an individual athletic acheivment. I'm still unsure of my final time, but I managed to pull off 3rd place in age 20-29 in today's Pitter Patter 10km race in Belleville. Here's the deal with the time...somewhere around the 5km mark I lost my time thingy that was pinned to my shirt, so when I crossed the finish line they went to pull it and it wasn't there so I had to tell them my name...to say the least it was a little chaotic and all I wanted to do was keep moving, so I did...a few minutes later I ran into my trainer, Sandy, who asked me how I did and I was like...it was great, I felt great, etc...then she was like What was your time? and I had no clue!!! She went to check for me as I noticed today, she's a big shot in the local running community and came back to report my time at 53:06, then when they did the medal award thing they read my time at 56 minutes and change, so I really have no clue what my finishing time was, and it really doesn't matter...so I'll go with the 53:06. The overall winner came in just over 36 minutes...now that's fast!
It was a wicked experience (that's wicked good for you old folks)! I had a smile on my face the whole time, despite the fact it was a rain/snow combo, windy and around the 0 celcius mark...it didn't matter it felt great. I took it slow out of the gate, then around 6km I was like I can do more, then around 8km I felt I could do even more, then at 9km I was ready to giver...and I did. I probably could have gone faster earlier, but I have to keep the big picture in mind here...42.2km!!!
Comming across the finish line was amazing...Amy was there with the Camera, then mom, dad, Raymond, B, and Henry were all lined up along the side...so I ran over and fivered them all as I passed...Thanks guys...it really meant a lot that you were there.
I'll probably come back to this later to fill you in on more details, but for now I have a nice hot bath waiting for me. L8r.
Will
